Acupuncture

How can it help you?

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing with a history of continuous usage for over 3000yrs. In Asian countries such as Japan, China, Taiwan, it is an accepted component of  medical treatment and now becoming more well known throughout the world  as people experience benefits.

Acupuncture focuses on maintaining optimum health, rather than simply curing disease. It seeks to restore a state of internal balance and facilitate the flow of energy throughout the body.

Is it painful?

I use small ultra fine single use Japanese style needles which are virtually pain free. Many people experience relaxation and well-being during treatment.

What can it treat?

Acupuncture treatments are pain relieving, with anti-inflammatory effects. They have a strengthening effect for the immune system and relieve stress , promoting general well being. Acupuncture can be used for a wide variety of conditions including musculo-skeletal pain & injuries, digestive,  anxiety and immune disorders.  As well, giving  support and well being alongside conventional medical treatments and procedures.

How does it work?

The selection of acupuncture points is based on a diagnosis of the individual’s energy imbalance and the treatment is designed to encourage a disturbed physiological pattern into a state of balance and harmony. Studies in neurophysiology demonstrate that physiological adjustments are brought about by subtle changes in the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system. Acupuncture has a regulating effect on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system which can help reduce stress and benefit the relaxation response .

How many treatments are needed?

A course of 6-10 sessions is recommended, although results may be apparent after one treatment. Generally long term problems may require more sessions, acute problems less.
